CVD stands for Chemical Vapour Deposition and is the commonly used name for diamonds grown in a laboratory via a process of chemical vapour deposition. This differs from another process commonly-used to create lab grown diamonds, HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature).
CVD diamonds are human-made diamonds, but are identical to natural diamonds and are 100% authentic diamonds. In fact, it is impossible to tell a CVD diamond apart from a natural diamond without specialist equipment.
Lab diamonds are becoming an increasingly popular choice amongst engagement ring and jewellery buyers – and along with HPHT, CVD is one of the most commonly used production methods. Some of the benefits of CVD diamond jewellery include more ethical origins, sustainability and cheaper prices.
1 Chemically Identical: CVD diamonds are chemically identical to natural diamonds.
2 High Purity: They typically have fewer impurities than mined diamonds.
3 Brilliant Sparkle: CVD diamonds exhibit the same brilliance and fire as natural diamonds.
4 Customizable: The growth process allows for precise control over size, shape, and color.
5 Eco-friendly: CVD diamonds have a lower environmental impact compared to mined diamonds.
Diamond Seed Placement: A small diamond seed is placed in a vacuum chamber.
Gas Introduction: Carbon-rich gases, like methane and hydrogen, are introduced into the chamber.
Plasma Formation: The gases are heated or ionized into plasma using heat or microwave energy.
Carbon Atom Deposition: Carbon atoms from the plasma bond to the diamond seed.
Layer-by-Layer Growth: The diamond grows layer by layer as carbon atoms continue to deposit.
Final Removal: Once the diamond reaches the desired size, it is removed from the chamber.
Cutting and Polishing: The rough diamond is cut, polished, and shaped into a finished gem.
For centuries, we’ve been given to believe that diamonds are found only deep underground. That essentially makes diamonds Mother Nature’s gift to us. But what if we say diamonds do not always have to occur naturally and can be grown and manufactured? Believe it or not, that’s true! Lab grown diamonds are a reality and have been around for decades. Despite that, lab cultured diamonds have many myths surrounding them. So, let’s debunk five of them in this blog.

They say everything natural has an incomparable charm. While we don’t deny that, it may not apply to anything and everything. Let’s take diamonds for instance. Natural diamonds are rare and therefore, priceless. However, they take millions and billions of years to form. Besides, it takes a herculean effort to excavate them.
